Alinda

Canadian soprano Andriana Chuchman is in her third year at The Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, recognized as one of the premier professional young artist programs in the world. At the Lyric, she appeared in Die Frau ohne Schatten, as Pousette (Manon), and covered Musetta (La bohème), Nannetta (Falstaff), Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Manon (Manon), and Leila (The Pearl Fishers), in addition to singing Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro) with the Ryan Opera Center. Ms. Chuchman will perform the role of Valencienne (Merry Widow) this season at Lyric, under the musical direction of Emmanuel Villaume, along with student matinee performances of Adina (L’Elisir d’Amore), and has been engaged by them for leading roles in future seasons.

In the spring of 2008, Ms. Chuchman earned widespread critical praise for her debut with Chicago Opera Theater as Dorinda in Handel’s Orlando, and will return to sing Alinda in Cavalli’s Giasone in their upcoming 2010 season.  Other Chicago area appearances included a recital with the Dame Myra Hess Concert Series, as a guest on the Prairie Home Companion radio show at the 2007 Ravinia Festival, and most recently in Handel’s Messiah with the International Music Foundation of Chicago.  This past spring, Ms. Chuchman sang the role of Irma in Charpentier’s Louise at Spoleto Festival USA.

As a 2005 and 2006 participant at San Francisco Opera’s Merola Program, she sang the roles of Barbarina (Le nozze di Figaro), Carolina (Il Matrimonio Segreto), and in extensive excerpts as Blanche (Dialogues of the Carmelites) and Clorinda (La Cenerentola).

In Canada, Ms. Chuchman recently made her Edmonton Opera debut as Marie (La Fille du Regiment), and has also performed the roles of Adina (L’Elisir d’Amore), Barbarina, Giannetta (L’Elisir d’Amore), Ida (Die Fledermaus), and Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi). Concert performances have included engagements with the Prince George Symphony in Thibaudeau’s The Phantom of the Opera, and several engagements with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra including their Holiday Pops concerts, their 2007 New Music Festival in Christos Hatzis’ oratorio The Sepulcher of Life, and Bach’s “Coffee Cantata”.
