Chicago Opera Theater is looking for volunteers in the South Asian community to help promote the new opera A Flowering Tree and the festival India Blooms in Chicago occurring in April and May 2008. A Flowering Tree is based upon an ancient folk tale from South India translated by A.K. Ramanujan, a brilliant folklorist and faculty member at the University of Chicago. Honorarium available. COT appreciates all types of support and currently has needs in several different departments, listed below. Whatever your interest or talent, we will find the right match for our volunteers. Find out where you fit in with our hard-working team! Production: Be a Lightwalker on stage to assist the production staff during lighting sessions. Education: Lend a hand with student performances, education lectures, and special events. Help with such things as setting up/transporting materials, applying kids’ make-up, and documenting the event. Development: Act as a greeter for receptions, seminars, and other community or patron events. Provide administrative help in the office with tasks such as mailings, filing, and special research projects. Marketing: Assist patrons at the theater during performances in various ways, such as answering questions or distributing information. Additionally, data entry volunteers are especially helpful.
