India Blooms in Chicago

India Blooms in Chicago
Renowned for his geo-political operas, John Adams’ newest opera turns away from contemporary events toward stories from long ago. A Flowering Tree is based upon an ancient folk tale from Southern India translated by A.K. Ramanujan who was a brilliant folklorist and faculty member at the University of Chicago. In celebration of Adams’ latest masterpiece, Chicago Opera Theater presents India Blooms in Chicago, a month-long festival exploring the art of storytelling across genres – film, dance, folk tale traditions, psychoanalysis, poetry, music and hip hop – to provide a lens into the rich and vibrant culture of India.

All events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted. Due to limited seating, reservations are requested at education@chicagooperatheater.org or 312.704.8420 x23.
