Moses in Egypt Audience Reactions
THE BUZZ
Opera lovers of Chicago were
invited to choose an opera
for COT to produce in 2010! Moses in Egypt garnered
the most votes—making it the People’s Opera Winner!
THE HISTORY
There’s only been one
performance of Moses in Egypt—in Chicago—in 1863! Be part of
this historic second performance
in Chicago, when COT presents
the U.S. premiere of top Rossini
scholars Charles Brauner and Philip Gossett’s new
edition of the opera.
THE HIGHLIGHT
Yes, you’ll see Moses part the
Red Sea. But you’ll also hear
what some consider Rossini’s
most beautiful music in “Dal
tuo stellato soglio” (”From
Thy starry throne“) sung by
Moses and Elcia, and supported
by a haunting chorus playing the
Hebrews and Egyptians.
Sung in Italian with English supertitles
Approximate running time: 2 hours and 45 mins with one intermission
