Mosè in Egitto (Moses in Egypt)

Egypt suffers the plague of darkness with light restored by Moses in return for the promise of freedom for the Israelites. Pharoah's son Amenophis plans to prevent their departure, since he loves the Israelite Anaïs. When Pharoah tries to break his promise, Moses engineers a plague of hail and fire. Pharoah suggests an arranged marriage with an Armenian princess for Amenophis, while the latter plans to elope with Anaïs. Moses now calls for the death of the first-born, and Pharoah, making his son joint ruler with himself, tells him to have Moses executed. When Amenophis condemns Moses to death, the latter strikes him dead, to the distress of Anaïs. Leading his people away, Moses prays for the Red Sea to open and the Israelites cross safely to the other side, while Pharoah's pursuing troops are drowned with their master.
