Opera for All (OFA) brings Teaching Artists into Chicago Public Elementary Schools to educate students about classical music, singing, and opera. Opera for All allows kids to understand the art by participating in it, both in production and in performance. Each year, students in Opera for All participate in a 30 week program with the end goal of creating their very own unique opera. COT's team of teaching artists pair up and work with each classroom to create the script, lyrics, music, set and costume design, and choreography of the opera. In the spring, students in the OFA program perform their opera for their parents and peers.

The Teaching Artist Development Initiative is a new COT Education Department program that provides stipends, classroom training, and professional development opportunities to future OFA Teaching Artists. Those in this program work side by side with current Teaching Artists and receive hours of professional development on teaching artist specific topics. The Teaching Artist Development Initiative includes internship opportunities for music education students, and Assistant Teaching Artist positions for interested artists and educators who require more classroom experience before becoming Teaching Artists. The positions are by semester or year and are open to current and recent graduates of music, music education, or similar backgrounds.
